Who gets first wind of hurricanes?
Insurance, Reinsurance and Risk Management
Introduction to the Stream:
We all remember Hurricane Katrina that devastated New Orleans, the extreme flooding that hit parts of the UK, the earthquakes that rocked India and China, and of course the Tsunami that swept away whole communities in Asia. But aside from natural disasters, there’s also the constant threat of terrorism, kidnap, military coups and piracy that affect the operations of construction companies, oil producers, airlines, shipping companies and other global businesses.
Life is full of risk; it can’t be controlled, but it can be managed. Our Insurance, Reinsurance and Risk Management Stream predicts and spreads risk so in the event of major catastrophes economies can keep going and people can get on with their lives. For example, Aon co-sponsors Tropical Storm Risk (TSR), which provides real-time mapping and prediction of tropical cyclone windfields worldwide and provides an outlook report to coincide with the start of the Atlantic hurricane season.

The role:
The Global Broking Centre, Retail Broking and Reinsurance teams deliver dynamic and bespoke intellectual and financial capacity to Aon clients all over the world. We help our global team provide solutions to meet our clients’ specialist insurance needs. Not only do we act in a wholesale and reinsurance capacity, we also deliver direct retail business to clients where appropriate.
Our graduates experience the full lifecycle of our business – from the sales and marketing process to winning new clients, through the trading of risk in the market to an understanding of the importance of claims. Client management and an understanding of client needs underpin this lifecycle and are key in all that we do. As such, you will meet and develop relationships with a broad spectrum of people including our own industry specialists, our clients and members of the wider London and international reinsurance markets.
Training and development:
Our 18-month rotational programme will allow you to experience a variety of placements and classes of business before specialising. You will gain exposure to both technical and client-facing roles to understand the specialist advice our clients rely on and how they receive it. Placements can include broking, claims, client management and specialist project roles.
Your development will also be enhanced by the support we’ll give you to gain the industry-recognised ACII qualification, ensuring your knowledge keeps pace with your ambition.
Requirements:
We accept applications from graduates with a 2:1 in any discipline, although we encourage you to apply only if you are numerically confident and have the desire and ability to excel in a competitive environment where personal communication is key. Building relationships is at the heart of what we do and you’ll need to show that you can work collaboratively to develop solutions for our clients.
